BS. in progress. School of Natural Resources and Environment,
University of Arizona

Kelsie LaSharr is an undergraduate student at the University of Arizona. She is in the School of Natural Resource Program, approaching a Bachelors Degree in Conservation Biology.  She hopes to study wolves in graduate school.

Kelsie started working with animals in high school when she was employed at a veterinarian clinic in Glendale, Arizona – her hometown. She worked with veterinarians on small animals for two years. Although she gained much experience and loved the people she worked with, she found out that her passion was not private veterinarian practice. After graduating high school, she spent three months interning for the Glendale Police Department in the Crime Scene Department. After this great experience she decided that working for the police department was not her life long dream either. She then traveled to Beijing, China for three months where she taught English to young children of expatriate families. Although she enjoyed the different culture and experiences, teaching did not hold enough excitement for her. She returned to the US and began college, seeking a degree in Wildlife Conservation.

In the López-Hoffman Lab, Kelsie is assisting with research on transboundary ecosystem services.  She is currently studying how migratory bats provide crop-pest control services in both the United States in Mexico.  In addition, she is assisting with research on how ecosystem services can help frame better governance of the transboundary Colorado River delta. This has entailed interviewing stakeholders and decision-makers in the delta and assisting with writing publications and reports.

In addition, Kelsie also works in an Environmental Chemistry Lab researching emerging contaminants. She works with graduate students and post-docs on a variety of projects, including work on mine tailings, X-Ray Fluorescence, and carbon analysis.

Kelsie plans to graduate in December 2012.
