BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Jason Jurjevich is a Doctoral Candidate in the Department of Geography and Regional Development at the University of Arizona. His dissertation research focuses on the compositional impacts of migration on political landscapes, as well as the underlying context of political strategies surrounding Propositions 107 and 102 (same-sex marriage and domestic partner statutes) in Arizona.

As a Graduate Research Assistant for the Immigration Policy Program of the Udall Center for Studies in Public Policy, he works with Judy Gans in researching fundamentals of an enforceable U.S. immigration policy through social, demographic, and economic statistical analysis. Current research also considers the spatial patterns of employment status, industry, and earnings for foreign and native born populations.

A native of Wisconsin, Jurjevich received his B.B.A. degree in Accounting from the University of Wisconsin—Whitewater and passed the Uniform Certified Public Accounting (CPA) exam in 2000. After working for three years as a CPA with a public accounting firm in Madison, WI, he earned a Masters degree in Geography from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2005, where he was selected as the distinguished graduate student recipient of the Ronald W. Taylor Award for Excellence in Geography and the J. Dennis Lord Award for Excellence in Locational Analysis.

In May of 2008, Jurjevich was recognized by the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS) as a recipient of an Outstanding Teaching Assistant (TA) award. Jurjevich serves on the University of Arizona President’s LGBTQ Advisory Council, the LGBTQ Affairs Advisory Board, and past co-President of the graduate student group SAGA (Southern Arizona Geographers’ Association).
