BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Upon receiving his B.S. in Wildlife Biology in 1998, Matt began his professional career with the regional land and wildlife conservation organization Sky Island Alliance in Tucson. Over his 10-year career there, he blended Sky Island Alliance's science-based work with grassroots organizing and public advocacy, using principles of conservation biology to form the framework of a conservation formula that places emphasis on public participation in natural resource policy-making. Matt served as the organization’s Executive Director from 2005-2008. The organization attracted numerous awards during his tenure there, including The Nature Conservancy’s Joseph Wood Krutch Award and the Federal Highway Administration’s Environmental Excellence Award (for outstanding work in protecting wildlife linkages).

At the University of Arizona, Matt is currently a graduate student studying trans-boundary natural resource conservation, with an emphasis on ecological services and ecosystem restoration.

In civic life, Matt serves as the President of the Board of Directors of the Arizona Wilderness Coalition, on Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano's Forest Health Advisory Team, and as vice president of Menlo Park Neighborhood Association.
