Protecting the Antarctic Commons, by Bernard P. Herber, analyzes the adequacy of existing international governance mechanisms, specifically the Antarctic Treaty System, to direct policy goals for the long-term sustainability of the globally strategic Antarctic commons and natural resources.
After reviewing the economy of Antarctica and the Antarctic Treaty System, Herber describes current threats to the continent's sustainability and presents several options to help attain desired policy outcomes, particularly within the context of emerging global economic and political trends.
