When

noon to 1:30 p.m., April 18, 2024

Join us at the Udall Center for a presentation by Yuri Makino, 2023-24 Udall Center Fellow and Associate Professor in the School of Theatre, Film and Television in the UArizona College of Fine Arts, titled "America's Health: A Documentary featuring Healthcare Disruptors."

Prof. Makino will be presenting her work as a Udall Center Fellow, followed by a question-and-answer session with attendees. The Udall Center Fellows Program offers a semester off from normal teaching to allow for creative scholarship and pursuit of funds to further the Fellow’s research.

Co-produced/co-directed by Associate Prof. Yuri Makino and Christine Ryan Harland, America’s Health is a feature film in development about the individuals disrupting traditional healthcare systems by building community-based, patient-centered models. Shot in Arizona, Texas, Florida and Washington D.C., America’s Health highlights people taking action to make healthcare more efficient, affordable and accessible. Prof. Makino will discuss America’s Health’s development, filming to date and its next phase of production, as well as screen a sequence from the film. Unlike the role of traditional researchers, documentarians are rarely experts in the subject matter of their films, instead they must take a deep dive into the topic, relying on experts and activists in the field and the communities and its citizens impacted by the issues at hand to “find the story” that aligns with their interests, values and newly gained knowledge.

Lunch will be provided, but space is limited; Please register to attend by April 16.
