Abstract
In this article, we trace the modern cooperative relationship between the US and Mexico around the Colorado River to reveal key lessons about addressing the range of shared issues, the adaptive process, and the role of science diplomacy. These lessons can help guide future interactions and relations between the two countries, especially negotiations for new binational instruments to manage future shortages.
